The Photographer Interviews: Daniel Greenwood

What drew you to photography?

There are a few things that drew me in to taking photos and becoming a photographer. The first main thing was learning the ability to see deep into space with my camera. This inspired me a great deal to take photos and do what I do today. Another thing would be the atmosphere of everyone and constant inspiration. I thrive off inspiring others around me.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Inspiration has often come to me through other artists work. Sometimes more than others I would be laying in bed late at night and suddenly become inspired to create something new and unique. I am always driven to create new things that I feel I can make a connection with.

What type of cameras do you use?

I currently shoot with the Nikon D810, I have always loved this camera. We have shared many memories together!

What are some projects you have recently worked on?

Projects I have had a lot of fun with in the past have been my workshops I teach. I took students from warm climate areas of the world into the Canadian Rockies in the dead of the winter (-40c sometimes!). I also became a Photoshop partner last summer so we did a cool little project which I had a lot of fun doing!

What has been your biggest challenge pursuing a career in photography?

My biggest challenge has been the upkeep of social media so far. There also seems to be a lot of hate and negative energy along with increasing jealousy in the photography community lately.

With the rising popularity of my particular style, a lot of photographers have taken to hating on my work; I suppose because of the recognition I have received in such a short period of time!

What advice would you give to someone starting a career in photography?

The best advice I could give anyone just starting out would be to follow your own path as an artist, create what you feel you want to create and not what seems more popular or trendy at the time. Just do what makes you happy as an artist and forget about what all the others say!
